Michigan reports 7,341 new COVID-19 cases, 254 deaths over a 3-day period

(WXYZ) – Michigan reported 7,341 new cases of COVID-19 and 254 deaths over a three-day period, the state confirmed Saturday.

Saturday’s coronavirus update from the State Department of Health and Human Services is a total of three days, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Officials say that over the three days – Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the average number of new confirmed cases is 2,447 per day.

In addition, the deaths announced Saturday included 188 deaths identified during a Vital Records review, the state said.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was 477,269, while the total number of deaths in the state reached 12,029. Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s ban on indoor restaurant dining will remain in effect until January 15.

As of December 23, a total of 318,389 people recovered from the virus in Michigan.
