Michigan opens the COVID Vaccine for 16+ Monday: Best Appointment Options

DETROIT – Beginning Monday, April 5, all Michigan residents 16 and older will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.

State guidelines lift restrictions on booking a COVID-19 vaccine appointment on April 5, allowing all adults to get one of three FDA-authorized shots.

Michigan will also see a boost in shipping vaccines starting this week to help combat the current COVID-19 spike, which is among the worst in the US.

The options for finding a vaccine have expanded in the state over the past week and will continue as the supply increases. Here are some of your best options for making an appointment:

CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Rite Aid are rapidly expanding appointments in Metro Detroit and Michigan. The best time to look for appointments is early in the morning. (Pro Tip: Search by Zip Code)

Also contact your local pharmacy. Many have vaccine stocks or waiting lists.

Local health departments have set up local clinics for residents, some in local communities and some at the county level – you can find a list of each health department here.

Drop-in clinics are one of the best ways to get a vaccine. In Sterling Heights, ACCESS is hosting a Pfizer walk-in clinic this week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays that is open to all ages 16 and older. More info here.

If you’re a patient in a Michigan hospital system, they offer vaccines, but most are on waiting lists. Here are links to the main pages of the hospital system:
