Michigan is beginning to make $ 300 COVID-19 unemployment benefits to eligible residents

LANSING, Mich. Michigan has started making the weekly COVID-19 unemployment benefits of $ 300 to eligible residents affected by the pandemic.

According to the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, the state began to make the payments to about 365,000 prosecutors this weekend.

The pandemic unemployment compensation payments will run from December 27, 2020 to March 13, 2021. They offer an additional $ 300 in benefits per week to Michigan claimants who were negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Claimants do not need to take any action to receive the additional payments. They are paid automatically after they are certified.

“The UIA team worked tirelessly to ensure that Michigan was one of the first states to implement the PUC program,” said Acting UIA Director Liza Estlund Olson. “Now that we have received additional USDOL guidelines, we remain committed to implementing the remaining federal PUA and PEUC programs as soon as possible to get money out the door.”

Employees who were on pandemic unemployment benefits and pandemic emergency unemployment compensation do not need to take any action. According to state officials, they will not be able to complete the certifications until after December 26, and payments will not be completed until the technical updates of the UI system.

This will only be a disruption and claimants will be healed once the extensions are fully implemented, the state said in a release. An estimated end date is not yet known.

“These workers should be sure of that they will not miss any benefits and will receive every dollar they are entitled to once the programs are fully implemented, ”said Olson.

PEUC provides an additional 11 weeks of benefits for those who have exhausted the state’s regular unemployment benefits. PUA offers unemployment benefits to those who normally do not qualify for unemployment, including the self-employed and handymen.
