According to the CDC, the greatest number of variant cases have been discovered in Michigan and Florida. According to the MDHHS, the largest numbers of the British variant B117 have been found in the more densely populated areas.

More than half of the identified B117 variants came from an outbreak within the Michigan Department of Corrections. That’s another reason Michigan has identified more cases.

The B117 variant has been found in 31 Michigan counties, it is safe to assume it is widespread in the community. The concern now is that it could be part of the increase in the number of cases Michigan is currently seeing.

Other variants are being monitored, but only one case of the South African B1351 variant has been found in Michigan so far.

So far, the vaccines seem to be effective against the variants.
