Michael Brantley was removed from the Astros game in Oakland on Saturday with discomfort to the right wrist, believed to be the result of a blow to the wrist during his first and only record appearance of the game.
Brantley took a fastball from his right hand when facing lefthander Cole Irvin in the first inning, but after taking a moment to regroup while being examined by a team trainer, he stayed in and played defensively in the bottom of that inning. But Brantley didn’t take his second at bat in the second frame, replaced by pinch-hitter Chas McCormick.
Brantley is one of the Astros’ top hitters to start the season. He has six hits in nine at bats with two RBI’s. On Friday, he went 3-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Astros’s 9-5 win over the A’s.
