Miami Beach imposes a curfew when crowds, chaos overwhelms spring break paradise

Miami Beach bursts into spring break as unprecedented crowds overwhelm the sunny seaside party paradise.

The city imposed a curfew at 8 p.m. and declared a state of emergency in the busy nightlife area to combat the increasing chaos, according to reports.

“I think the volume is clearly higher than in previous years and that is, I think, partly due to the fact that very few places are open elsewhere in the country,” Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber told Reuters.

According to Miami Beach officials, the curfew will be in effect for at least 72 hours. Motorways in and out of the city are also closed overnight.

The crowds are so bad, “you couldn’t see pavement and you couldn’t see grass,” said Interim City Manager Raul Aguila.

On Saturday, Aguila declared a state of emergency. According to the Miami Herald, he wants the emergency measures to be in effect until April 12.
