The exchange rate traded lower in Mexico on Friday amid the peso’s appreciation as it headed into its second consecutive week of gains, as investors watched the US Treasury yield performance after hitting a high of 14. months the day before.

In the morning hours, the dollar price stood at 20.4489 pesos in the Mexican market, a value that was 0.11% lower than the 20.4710 peso of the Reuters reference price on Thursday.

During the week, the Mexican peso posted a gain of just over 1%, according to data from Refinitiv Eikon. “The Mexican peso is the most valued currency among the currencies of emerging countries”Gabriela Siller, director of analysis at Banco Base, said earlier, according to Reuters quotes.

Added that “The appreciation of the peso is not linked to any particular event in Mexico (…) but occurs after government bond yields have fallen.”

On the other hand, the Mexican Stock Exchange suffered with losses during its initial operations. The S&P BMV IPC index fell by 0.16% and stood at 47,496.06 points at 8:41 AM local time.
