Mexican invasion of Salvadoran football

Salvadoran football will practically have an invasion of Mexican players for this Clausura 2021, where the main figure to follow will be Carlos “Gullit” Peña, the great signing of FAS.

And it is that in recent years it is more common to see Aztec players on the Salvadoran football fields and in this Clausura 2021 there will be up to seven Mexican players divided between four clubs.

The players of Aztec descent who will play in this Clausura 2021 are: Carlos Gullit Peña, in FAS; Jesús Everardo Quintero, in Chalatenango; Joel Almeida, Firpo; Alejandro Dautt, in Santa Tecla; Edgar “Tepa” Solis, Dieter Vargas and Marvin Piñon from Once Deportivo.

With the arrival of Peña, Quintero, Vargas and Piñon, the number of Mexican players that played in the first division of El Salvador rises to 37. Only in the Apertura 2020 were there three players from that country: Flipe Ponce, Alejandro Dautt and Daniel Guzman .

Arturo Albarrán, a seasoned former Mexican player who has played on teams like Alianza, Águila and UES, and who was even called to be part of the El Salvador team, explained that one of the main reasons for the migration of Aztec footballers to Creole football it would be the suppression of Ascenso MX.

“You could see it coming because Mexico has taken out the promotion league which has now become an expansion league and the teams have been reduced to 12, so there were a lot of players who stopped working, I imagine the player emigrated because of that, because those those in the promotion league or in the first division feel at ease there, which is where the Mexican wanted to emigrate, not only to El Salvador, but also to Central America, ”Albarrán said.

For his part, Joel Almeida, a Mexican goalkeeper who became a benchmark for the historic Santa Tecla team where he won five championships with the Emeralds (three leagues and two cups), expressed his views on the importance of his fellow countrymen taking their gaze on El Salvador.

Football in Mexico has grown enormously in every way, for me it is very motivating to know that there are several fellow countrymen here who realize that the El Salvador league is very competitive, they already realize that they play more here. a big step forward for Salvadoran football, as competitions like the Mexican or the American look more into this, that motivates a lot, ”said Joel Almeida, one of the Mexican referees in Creole football.

Likewise, the great signing of this Clausura 2021 tournament, Carlos Peña of FAS, gave his thoughts on his entry into national football during his presentation. The former Mexican team World Cup player assured that before signing the tigrillos, he knew little or nothing about Cuscatleco football.

“It’s a very important start for me and my career, I hope to bring great joy to all FAS and myself. I know very little about El Salvador, when we started the talks they told us that football in El Salvador is very difficult very complicated, that we have to be 100% physically, ”said Peña.
