The New York Mets they keep looking at the free market right now they would be “very focused” on signing up to the Puerto Rican utility Kiké Hernández, according to MLB Network correspondent Jon Heyman. However, it remains to be seen whether the negotiations would be affected after New York CEO Jared Porter was fired on Tuesday.
Hernandez, 29, helps the Dodgers win the World Series and his versatility in defense would suit almost any Major League club.
The Puerto Rican bat has been inconsistent and there have been regular issues against right-handers (he has a .673 OPS in his career). But Hernandez can play the infield or patrol the prairies, having played at least 10 games as a starter in five different positions.
