Meghan Markle says Palace is behind the change to Archie’s birth certificate

Meghan Markle sets the record straight regarding the changes made to son Archie’s birth certificate.

In a statement Sunday to Page Six, a spokesman for the Duchess of Sussex, 39, said the omission of her first name, “Rachel Meghan”, from Archie’s birth papers was a phone call from The Palace.

“The name change on public documents in 2019 was prompted by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, nor by the Duke of Sussex, ”the statement read.

An updated piece of Archie’s birth certificate appeared online over the weekend, with The Sun of the UK highlighting the changes to Markle’s name. She is now listed as “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex”, while Harry, 36, is considered “His Royal Highness Prince Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex.”

The changes were made in June 2019, one month after Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born.

A Markle spokesman also condemned speculation that the edits were a dig at sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who shares three young children with Harry’s older brother, Prince William.

The Sussexes, who have been married since 2018, stepped down as ‘senior’ royals in January. They currently live in California.
