Meghan Markle is reportedly already networking with senior Democrats to help her ambitions become the first female US president.
The Duchess of Sussex previously told friends about her political ambitions – and now hopes her blockbuster Oprah Winfrey interview will bolster support in the US, sources told Mail on Sunday newspaper.
According to a senior British politician who served under former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and has close ties with Washington, she has openly allied among senior Democrats to build fundraising teams and a campaign for the White House.
“The Blairite, internationalist and democratic party networks are buzzing with talks about Meghan’s political ambitions and potential donors,” the anonymous source told the British newspaper.
Markle, 39, is believed to be watching the 2024 campaign if President Biden, who turns 82, decides not to run for a second term, the source said. If she succeeded, she would become the first female US president.
Her biographer and boyfriend, Omid Scobie, also previously claimed that the former actress “has her eyes on the US presidency.”
“Meghan is the epitome of the American dream. One day we may see Meghan become president, ”the author of“ Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family ”said earlier in a documentary.
Another friend also told Vanity Fair last year that the Duchess would “ seriously consider running for president. ”
“One of the reasons she was so reluctant to give up her US citizenship was because she had the opportunity to enter politics,” the unknown friend told the magazine of Markle’s brief time in the UK.
Another biographer has previously insisted that the Duchess does not have the “ skin of a rhinoceros to run, ” and her sensitivity to criticism only became more apparent during her conversation with Oprah.
“I would say categorically that she has no chance of ever running for president. She would be eaten alive, ”Andrew Morton, author of“ Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, ”told Vanity Fair last year.
