Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their second child.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” a spokesman for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex told Page Six on Sunday. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
The couple’s son, Archie, will turn 2 in May.
At the announcement of the pregnancy news, Markle, 39, and Harry, 36, shared an intimate black and white photo showing Markle cradling her baby bump. Page Six is told that the photo was taken remotely by the couple’s longtime friend and photographer, Misan Harriman.
The news comes a few months after Markle spoke of her “almost excruciating grief” after she miscarried in July.
The new arrival will be the first baby of British royal descent to be born in the US after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned their positions as senior royals earlier this year.
After leaving their roles, they settled in a $ 14 million home in Montecito, California, where neighbors are Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.
Rumors of Markle’s pregnancy began circulating late last year since her legal team asked that her privacy lawsuit against British newspaper Mail on Sunday be postponed for nine months on “confidential” grounds.
The former “Suits” actress then seemed to show off a bump in photos published on page six in late December when she stepped out, all bundled up in a thick parka and sweater.
Markle was praised in the New York Times last year for her brutally honest essay on pregnancy loss.
She wrote, “I knew while holding my firstborn child that I was losing my second child,” describing how she saw “my husband’s heart broke as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of me.”
Harry has already said he only wants two children, after speaking in the British edition of Vogue, a guest editor of his wife, about his environmental concerns and the “terrifying” effects of global warming.
Promising to be financially independent, the Sussexes have signed multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify, following in the footsteps of the Obamas. Their holiday podcast is expected soon.
Markle is also turning to investing – and is an angel investor in the woman-owned coffee brand Clevr, which Winfrey promoted to her 19 million Instagram followers.
