A Buckingham Palace spokesman said Monday, “Our commitment to investigate the circumstances surrounding allegations made by former staff of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continues, but we will not comment publicly.”
Harry and Meghan did not comment on Monday, but a spokesman for the couple previously dismissed allegations of bullying reported by The Times newspaper as “ defamatory. ”
“Let’s just call this what it is – a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation,” said the Sussex spokesman. “We are disappointed that this defamatory rendition of The Duchess of Sussex is being made credible by a media outlet.”
The war of words between the two camps broke out shortly before the airing of Meghan and Harry’s discussion with Winfrey, in which the couple took cover on the troubles of their life as royals and made a series of damning allegations against the family.
It has taken a different approach with allegations that Meghan was bullying royal staff, which was highlighted in an article in The Times.
The hiring of an outside company comes after the palace said their “HR team will investigate the circumstances described in the article.”
“Members of the staff involved at the time, including those who have left the household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned,” it said in its earlier statement.
During their interview with Winfrey, Harry and Meghan also said that they had complained to the Palace several times that their mental health was affected but were fired. Meghan revealed that she was contemplating suicide at one point, claims that echoed in the British media and scrutinized the royals.
