On Sunday evening I sit down in front of the TV and play a drinking game with virtual friends during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s much-hyped interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Tabloids. Shot! “Nightmare.” Shot! “Queen and Abuse.” Shot and shot!
The problem is, as the former royals regret their fate, it takes less than 10 minutes to slip off the couch drunk.
Judging by the trailers CBS released of the two-hour special – set to a cinematic soundtrack of soaring violins – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s blow-kick is just another ridiculous pity party.
Pass the sick bucket. Meghan’s complaints about Buckingham Palace expecting them to “shut up,” that the Windsors have “perpetuated falsehoods about her and Harry,” and other kinds of bleating are already making me sick.
What did Meghan Markle expect by getting married to the British Royal Family, the ultimate gilded cage? Her main complaint seems to be that she couldn’t get everything that was offered – the money, the houses, the title – and keep doing what she wanted without responsibility.
It’s a little rich in these awful times – when people die from COVID-19 and others face financial ruin – that these spoiled narcissists think it’s okay to complain about alleged contempt from the comfort of their $ 14 mansion. 65 million in California.
If you’ve lost a loved one to the virus, your job is at risk, or your kids are denied education, you’ll feel a lot better listening to the plight of a perfectly haircut actress in a $ 4,700 dress and a grumpy-looking blueblood with a wild-child past.
Then there’s the slick PR machine that Hazza and Megs have used as their crisis management team. Faced this week with allegations of bullying during her long stint as a royal – some 682 days – Flacks said the Duchess was “saddened by this latest assault on her character.”
They added that after being the target of self-bullying, she is “deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.”
Listen, Buttercup! With your father-in-law, Prince Philip, 99, recovering from heart surgery in London while the rest of the world is hurting from the pandemic, it’s time to shut that valve.
Harry and Meghan say they left the Royal Family because they had so much to offer the world, so much they could say. But apparently they just need to talk about themselves.
