Meet Mike LaFleur, who will be coming to Jets with Robert Saleh

Robert Saleh’s anticipated offensive coordinator with the Jets has strong roots in the NFL family.

Mike LaFleur, the younger brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, would come to New York with Saleh from the San Francisco 49ers, according to The Post’s Brian Costello.

33-year-old LaFleur has been part of Kyle Shanahan’s staff at the Niners for the past four seasons as the team’s match coordinator. He also served as a wide receivers coach for his first two years with the team before Wes Welker was hired to fill that role in 2019.

LaFleur, a former quarterback from Elmhurst College, Illinois, previously worked at Shanahan as an offensive intern in Cleveland (2014) and as an offensive assistant in Atlanta (2015-16) when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator on those NFL teams.

Shanahan had joked in December that he had informed Saleh – then the Niners’ defense coordinator – that he couldn’t bring San Francisco assistants with him if he got head coaching.

“I keep telling him not to take anyone,” Shanahan said. “Sometimes I can take it a bit easier, but usually I set the bar very low and then we’ll see what happens next.”

Matt LaFleur requested to interview his younger brother for the opening of the Green Bay offensive coordinator in 2019, but Shanahan declined the request. The NFL instituted a rule in 2020 that prevents teams from preventing offensive assistants from interviewing for coordinator positions.

Matt LaFleur has been the Packers’ head coach for two seasons, leading them to the NFC Championship Game last season and a 13-3 score this year. They are the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC and will take on the Los Angeles Rams in the division round on Saturday.
