Meet Genki: ShadowCast, the “easiest way” to connect your Switch to a laptop

Human Things has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for a device called the Genki: ShadowCast, and it’s already really ruined its $ 30,000 goal.

In just a few hours, the team has already received more than $ 300,000 in pledges, and the device itself costs $ 39 USD.

So what is this device doing that is so great? It provides the “easiest way” to play console games on your computer and laptop, without the need for an Internet connection or television. It features 4K HDMI input and USB Type-C output and is compatible with the Switch, PS5 and XSX.

Note: HDMI 2.0 input provides 4K video from the latest game consoles including Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4/5 and XBox Series S / X

USB-C output is transferred to the computer at 1920×1080 @ 30fps and 1280×720 @ 60fps

The ShadowCast comes with a new Genki Arcade app – making it easy to detect the ShadowCast from any device you play on. It is designed from the ground up to “minimize computing resources and prioritize latency.”

Human Things describes an additional feature (essentially a more affordable capture card):

“The great thing about being able to connect your game console to your computer means you can actually record, edit and stream your gameplay. While it may not be on the same level as a professional capture card that costs 5-10x more, it more than caters for most gameplay needs, while being much more flexible and user-friendly across multiple platforms. “
