The students of the Faculty of Human Medicine of the Autonomous University of Chiapas (Unach) announced an immediate and indefinite cessation of activities to demand justice and the resolution of the feminicide of their partner Mariana de Lourdes Sánchez Dávalos.
The student community of Surgeon and Gerontology degrees, in a letter to the university, demanded that “appropriate action be taken against those who allegedly ignored the complaints” of the young Social Security Medical Intern (MPSS).
Mariana Sánchez, 24, was doing her social work at a clinic in Nueva Palestine, Ocosingo Municipality, Chiapas, and was found dead in her room on Thursday, January 28.
Two months ago, the young woman reported sexual assault by members of the community in which she provided her social services to the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office and the State Secretariat of Health, but the investigation did not go further.

After what happened to her, Mariana sought to have health and school authorities move her to another community, but they limited her vacation to only one month and did not transfer her to another area or pursue her complaint, her colleagues said.
In a statement, the Committee of Medical Students of the State of Chiapas (CEMECH) indicated that Mariana’s case was not on the agenda and demanded changes in the processes and in the protection of students, interns or interns.
Regarding Mariana’s case, the Department of Health issued a statement limiting itself to rejecting “any act of violence against women” within that agency.
He also pointed out that “institutional links will be strengthened to ensure that medical students and officials responsible for educational programs have the necessary tools to prevent, report and / or address any case of gender violence.”
