Medical College: Government has an agreement with Pfizer to use this vaccine in El Salvador | News from El Salvador

Milton Brizuela, chairman of the union, confirmed that the government already has an agreement with this pharmaceutical company, whose vaccine is used in European countries.

The President of the Medical College of El Salvador (Colmedes) Milton Brizuela confirmed yesterday that they are aware that the government has taken steps to bring the Pfizer Laboratory’s COVID-19 vaccine to the country.

“We are aware that it was discussed in the CAPI, the Immunizations Advisory Board, and they eventually also suggested that it was the best alternative because it is one of the few (vaccines) that are currently approved,” he said .

Brizuela said they also have reports that the government has made agreements with Pfizer to buy the bins, which require freezing temperatures.

This agreement with Pfizer has not yet been formalized by the Executive. President Nayib Bukele announced on November 25 that there is an agreement for El Salvador to receive 2 million doses of the vaccine developed by the British-Swedish pharmaceutical AstraZeneca, once it has undergone research to confirm it is working properly.

The same health minister, Francisco Alabí, also confirmed in November that vaccination with AstraZeneca would begin in the first quarter of 2021 and has also not provided any information about Pfizer.

The Colmedes’ leader said they see it as a positive thing that they begin to vaccinate, although he made it clear that due to government secrecy, they don’t know in depth how the process will go, or who will vaccinate first.

“Hopefully it has nothing to do with political influences. Hopefully, the primary health care provider will get vaccinated first and then go to people with risk factors, ”he said.

According to infectologist Iván Solano Leiva, the issue of Pfizer’s vaccine came up in a meeting that this advisory body of the Ministry of Health held last Wednesday.

Pfizer is the vaccine used in European countries, despite delivery delays in eight countries of the old continent last Monday; in the US they vaccinate with Moderna.

MOP is already building modules in which vaccines are used

A total of 156 modules will be installed in different parts of the country to use as points for applying for vaccines, President Bukele reported on his Twitter Monday evening.

The president does not indicate whether only that vaccine will be used in those places or also others from the health vaccination schedule.

According to data posted by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) on its social networks, that institution is responsible for raising the prefabricated structures.

According to the MOP reports, among the sites where such modules will be are: the Chalatenango Health Unit; Concepción Quezaltepeque, always in Chalatenango; the San Juan de Dios National Hospital in Santa Ana and the Rosales National Hospital in this capital.

In the Military Hospital in San Salvador they are also adapting an area that will be used as a vaccination center. While in the Congo Health Unit, they are preparing an area in Santa Ana to store medicines and vaccines.

Bukele emphasized that the huts will be accessible and will have the necessary conditions for the administration of the vaccine to the population, free and voluntary.

“After the vaccination process, which will take several months, these 156 modules will be used as digital libraries in our public schools,” said the president.
