McDonald’s will be launching three chicken sandwiches in February to reach new customers with more poultry on the menu.

From February 24, consumers can purchase the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the Deluxe Chicken Sandwich.

The fast food giant began testing the Crispy Chicken Sandwich in Houston and Knoxville, Tennessee almost a year ago. The sandwich consists of a fried chicken breast served on a buttery potato bun, topped with butter and pickles. The spicy version comes with a spicy peppercorn sauce, while the deluxe sandwich has more toppings: shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes, and mayo.

In November, executives told investors they would increase the number of chicken menu items as the category is growing faster than beef. While the new chicken sandwiches are only part of that strategy, US President Joe Erlinger said at the time that the new options will help consumers see McDonald’s differently.

In recent years, privately-owned Chick-fil-A has leaped forward at other restaurant chains to become the third largest in the United States by sales, leaving only Starbucks and McDonald’s behind. The chicken-focused menu has attracted new consumers as it has expanded beyond the Southern base and competition with McDonald’s has increased.

Other rivals have seen success challenging Chick-fil-A with a chicken sandwich, notably Popeyes. Since the product’s introduction nearly a year and a half ago, the Restaurant Brands International chain has reported double-digit sales growth in the same store every quarter, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Shares of McDonald’s, with a market value of $ 162 billion, fell 2% during morning trading. The stock ended 2020 up 8%.
