Mayor of Salinas asks DTOP to install traffic light at intersection after death of a minor

The Mayor of Salinas, Karilyn Bonilla Colón, called on the directorates of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) and the Highways and Transportation Authority (ACT) to take immediate action on the problems posed by constant traffic. Desvío 180 State Highway, intersection with Paseo Manuel González, towards the Playita community.

“Unfortunately at that crossroads we have the second death in less than a month. Not a week goes by when we have no reports of car accidents in that area and we have been asking the DTOP and ACT in writing for years to conduct a traffic study to place a traffic light or other security measure that addresses this problem . , ”Explained the also former director of the State Agency for Disaster Management and Disaster Administration (now negotiated).

Last February, a man driving a motorboat who was hit by a car died, and yesterday there was another accident that killed a 14-year-old teenager. The mayor also pointed out that the government agencies have in fact installed a tool to study traffic in the area “but that was a year ago, but we don’t know the result.” This detour on the PR 180 was made to handle the heavy and regular traffic of the urban area and has become one of the most important in Salinas.

“There is nothing that compares the pain of families who have lost a loved one in an accident, and I repeat, in less than a month we had two fatalities in that area. This situation must be resolved immediately. If we had the power of the law in the church to resolve this, it would have happened a long time ago. But it is in the hands of the central government agencies, ”concluded Bonilla Colón.
