Mayaro beach ‘thief’ beaten, tied up ‘like market crab’ | News Extra

A Mayaro ‘thief’ targeting a group of fitness enthusiasts on the beach had turned the tables against him on Saturday.

The 20-year-old man from Sham Road was subdued, tied up and turned over to the police.

In a post on social media, one of the women in the fitness group related the ordeal.

She wrote, “Folks we’re safe nowhere you know … this morning my fitness crew and I went to Mayaro beach to work out and this guy tried to rob my trainer and steal things left in the sand while we “The length of the beach at about 9:30 am. Who tells him to do that?”

The social media user said the suspect tried to steal her trainer’s phone, but was no match for the trainer she described as a trained fighter for Maloney.

The fitness session turned into a self-defense class when the trainer suppressed the suspect by putting him in a master lock and then squeezing him to the ground.

The woman said the trainer tried to help the suspect by asking him why he was stealing on the beach.

Together with a female trainer they subdued the suspect again and tied him with a piece of string “like a market crab”.

Mayaro police responded and took the suspect into custody.

He was taken to Mayaro police station and charged with theft.
