Matthew McConaughey is considering running for governor of Texas

Matthew McConaughey said on Wednesday that he is considering a run-up to the Texas governor.

The Dallas Buyers Club star recognized the opportunity to run to the office while being interviewed on the “The Balanced Voice” podcast.

McConaughey, 51, spoke about his current role as a parent and professor at the University of Texas when he wondered out loud what his next step in life would be.

“And I am now researching, what is my leadership role?” McConaughey asks. ‘Because I think I have a number of things to teach and share.

“What is my role, what is my category in my next chapter of life that I will get into now?” he continues.

Hostess Rania Mankarious took the opportunity to wonder if a gubernatorial run would qualify as his next step.

“It’s a real consideration,” said the Oscar winner.

Last November, McConaughey did not rule out participation in political office when asked about the possibility in a radio interview.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, is eligible for re-election in 2022.
