Matthew McConaughey has been through many things over the course of various careers: he has been a beach bum, an immortal wizard, the star of The Beach Bum, a man who runs Lincolns, one bourbon spokesperson, a rom-com icon, a guy in a Chevelle picking up high school girls, a god visit from heaven to enjoy our human Olympics, and of course one distinguished professor at the University of TexasStill, his weathered cowboy heart longs LakeSomething that could really have a lasting impact on the beautiful big rock we call America, or at least more lasting impact than its awards, its millions of dollars, its family and its aircraft carrier full of stylish Lincoln cars … something like politics
Yes, if you felt a bone aching chill pouring through the air, it wasn’t climate change that was creating another polar vortex. In fact, it was the haunting echo of another celebrity who decided that their particular set of skills (including ‘looking presentable’, ‘reading’ and ‘being famous’) would translate perfectly into a career in politics. Anyway, it worked for Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Donald Trump, who says it can’t work for Matthew McConaughey either? He is a professor, and not at a fake school he invented as a tax shelter. The University of Texas is a real place! It doesn’t just exist on paper!
Regardless, McConaughey briefly addressed the idea of running for Texas governor in 2022 while performing at the Balanced voice podcast (which is run by a Houston nonprofit and not a Republican think tank, despite the name), and while he didn’t say a turn to politics is certain, he did say this was a potential campaign. a real consideration “- which probably means he is really think about it, possibly while you’re shirtless on a beach or shirtless in a Lincoln. Weekly entertainment notes that McConaughey recently told Stephen Colbert The late show that he had no plans to get into politics, calling it a “broken business,” but it sounds like he at least softened the idea.
As for why he is attracted to a political career, McConaughey says he has a lot of “wisdom to share” that is “obvious” to him, but apparently useful to “young people.” He says he’s interested in exploring ‘leadership positions’ that could help other people, especially younger people, which is at the very least a more noble position to possibly pursue a political career than’ I want my motherfuckers and dumb helping children get rich ”(which is clearly not a specific reference to anyone in particular). We still have a year or so before McConaughey’s political campaign is due to get off the ground, so we’ll have to see how this goes.
