Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Sounds Like He’s In Trouble, As Two Theoretical Title (s) For The Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man 3 are an indication.
Announced on Holland’s Instagram, it is a title for the third installment of the Marvel-Sony franchise Spider-Man: Phone HomeThe subtitle fits exactly with the theme of the high school Homecoming and the sequel to the European vacation Far from home, and creates even more distance from Peter Parker’s home in New York City. (Also fine ET to nod.)
But wait … is that the title?
In a separate post, costar Jacob Batalon shared another still from the set with a different title treatment. Get ready for … Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker
Based on casting reports that neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures have yet to technically confirm, Spider-Man 3 will see Spidey being sucked into the multiverse. Holland and Batalon’s title mistake seems to play right in the premise, whether it’s legitimate or not. Anyway, even if they were trolling Marvel fans, they still gave a first look at a movie. Something will glow of the screen in 2021.
The linchpin to a true multiverse comes after Mysterio fooled the world into thinking there were other levels of existence in Far from home … only for the public to learn through a post credit scene cameo from JK Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson maybe all that is connected (and that Peter Parker is Spider-Man – but that’s a whole different can of worms). After Evan Peters’ Quicksilver emerged from the Fox X-Men movies WandaVision a few weeks ago, all the cross-franchise shenanigans seemed plausible with Marvel Studios regaining control of its properties.
Spider-Man 3 would shift Doctor Strange to the paternal role that Tony Stark reprized Homecomingand rope in villains from far beyond the MCU – including Jamie Foxx’s Electro van The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus Spider-Man 2There has been no formal casting or announcement of a key villain, but rumors are circulating that series director Jon Watts’ dream of bringing Kraven the Hunter to the screen can actually happen. (So cross your fingers, he’s chasing Spideys across the multiverse.)
Whatever doors the film opens to the greater universe, and whatever they call it, Spider-Man 3 promises to be the biggest MCU Spider-Man episode ever. “The film is incredibly ambitious and I am delighted to say that we have succeeded in making it,” Holland said recently Yahoo“It is going very well. We watched a fight scene we shot a few weeks ago, and I’ve never seen a fight scene like this in the MCU. I love that the public sees that. “
Spider-Man: Phone Home / Home-Wrecker, currently filming in Marvel’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, is being re-directed by Watts, who has the rare honor of guiding every episode of a single MCU hero franchise (and he’ll be standing up again for a non-Sony Marvel movie, Fantastic four, in the not-so-distant future). Like the entire Marvel movie calendar of the past year, the availability of theaters and state-to-state reopenings during the COVID pandemic could change plans in an instant, but for now, Spider-Man: Phone Home / Home-Wrecker is scheduled for a release date of December 17, 2021. At least Sony and Disney managed to get a deal to make it happen.
