Mark Poloncarz, Erie County executive criticizes NHL for safety – The Athletic

BUFFALO, NY – As Erie County executive, Mark Poloncarz would be angry and disappointed if a company in his community knowingly put its employees at risk for COVID-19.

“That’s pretty low and may be illegal,” Poloncarz told The Athletic on Friday.

Since the New Jersey Devils traveled to Buffalo last weekend to brave the Sabers, the teams have had 22 players implement the COVID-19 protocols. Sabers coach Ralph Krueger has a confirmed case.

“In my view, the NHL should have taken more action to ensure the safety of both the players on both teams and the players who surrounded them,” said Poloncarz. “It seemed like they were more interested in playing a game.”
