Greene said in a statement Sunday that she “will file a resolution to expel Rep. Maxine Waters from Congress for her continued incitement to violence.”
The Republican lawmaker specifically targeted Waters because he spoke to protesters at a rally in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota on Saturday. Protests erupted in the city last week after police fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop on April 11.
Waters told reporters Saturday that she is “going to fight with all the people who stand up for justice,” adding, “We have to get justice in this country, and we cannot allow these murders to continue,” Fox News reported. .
The murder of Daunte Wright comes as former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is on trial for the murder of George Floyd’s death last year. Floyd died after Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes during an arrest.
When asked about Chauvin’s trial, Waters told reporters that if Chauvin is found not guilty, “we need to stay on the streets and get more active. We need to become more confrontational. To make sure they know we mean business.” Fox News said, in addition to making other comments about the trial and police brutality in the US
Greene claimed on Sunday that Waters’ comments “ sparked more violence and an urge to shoot at National Guardsmen in Minnesota early this morning. ”
Two guards were injured early Sunday morning when a gunman fired at a Minnesota National Guard and a Minneapolis Police Neighborhood Guard team, the Minnesota National Guard said.
However, National Guard officials did not provide immediate evidence of who fired at law enforcement officials or any connection to Waters’s comments.
The Hill has contacted Waters’s office for comment.

Neither resolution went nowhere, but the House voted in February to strip Greene of her committee duties after she previously endorsed violence against Democratic politicians, the QAnon conspiracy theory, and other racist dogmas.
