Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen respond to Dustin Diamond’s cancer

“Saved by the Bell” stars Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen have expressed their support for co-star Dustin Diamond in his fight against cancer.

Lopez, 47, said on Instagram that he reached out to Diamond, 44, after hearing about his diagnosis on Thursday.

“I spoke with Dustin earlier tonight and while the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain confident that he will overcome it,” Lopez wrote two photos of the co-stars – one from their hit series and one from a 2016 interview .

Praying for him and his family and for a speedy recovery. God bless.”

Meanwhile, Thiessen, 46, posted a photo of Diamond to her Instagram story, writing, “I’m thinking about you Dustin.”

There has been a gap between Diamond and the cast of “Saved by the Bell” for years. Diamond’s 2009 book failed to paint his fellow stars in a positive light, and he was subsequently absent from a popular 2015 reunion on “The Tonight Show,” as well as the show’s recent Peacock reboot.

In 2019, show star Mark-Paul Gosselaar admitted that he had not spoken to Diamond in 25 years.

Diamond’s team confirmed his cancer diagnosis days after he was hospitalized due to widespread pain and discomfort. His family has a history of cancer, including his mother who died of breast cancer.

Dustin’s team did not reveal what type of cancer the star has, although a report from TMZ states that it is stage 4 and that Diamond is undergoing chemo.
