Mario Cárdenas Guillén, brother of Osiel Cárdenas, sentenced to 20 years

Mario Cárdenas Guillén, The M-1 O Fat brother of drug trafficker former leader of the Gulf CartelOsiel Cárdenas Guillén, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for organized crime under the hypothesis of committing crimes against health with functions of administration, supervision or leadership, for which he will remain incarcerated in a federal social adjustment center.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) indicated that the M-1 served as one of the main leaders of the criminal organization the Gulf Cartel, responsible for drug trafficking, which operates in several states of the Mexican Republic.

According to the FGR, it was through the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime Investigation (Seido) and the Office for Regional Control, Criminal Proceedings and Amparo (SCRPPA), based in Toluca, that this punishment was obtained on the basis of investigations into their participation in organized crime

Despite a conviction in June 2019, the defense appealed the resolution, for which the federal judge ordered the proceedings to be reintroduced; reason why, the Federal Government Ministry presented the corresponding evidence, for which the judicial authority in the State of Mexico has analyzed and sentenced to 20 years in prison against this person, although the authorities have not disclosed the prison in which he will serve the sentence.

The now convicted is the brother of the drug trafficker, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, who was the leader of the Gulf Cartel and who is now serving a sentence for the same crimes, but internationally, in the United States.
