In a video posted to Instagram, Carey said she was “a little excited and nervous” about getting her first shot. But she took a deep breath, rolled up her sleeve, and let out one of her famous high notes as the needle went into her arm.
“Side effect of the vaccine: G6,” Carey wrote in the caption.
Speaking to her 10 million followers, Carey made a nod to the state of today’s pandemic compared to where it was a year ago. She was referring to a video she posted with her children in March 2020 in which she encouraged people to wash their hands properly as the pandemic had just started. “We’re still together in this fight,” Carey said before she was shot.
Carey is one of the many celebrities who call on people to get vaccinated whenever they can. Dolly Parton also brought her singing chops when she got an injection, singing a vaccine-inspired version of “Jolene.”
While Carey didn’t say whether she got the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, she did say this shot was only part one, so stay tuned for the follow-up in three or four weeks.
