The Court of First Instance, through Supreme Judge Anthony Cuevas Ramos this afternoon, dismissed the lawsuit filed by the former mayor of San Juan, Manuel Natal, in which he sought to contest Miguel Romero’s election as mayor for existence of alleged irregularities.
According to the Court’s ruling, the lawsuit is dismissed “for violating the jurisdiction provision set forth in the 2020 electoral law to serve the challenged candidate.”
That is, Natal did not summon the challenged candidate within the five-day deadline stipulated in the new electoral law.
“ We recognize that we are facing a new issue, but despite all of the above, and if we had understood that our interpretation of the terms of the 2020 electoral law is very restrictive and that these terms should be considered strictly compliant, be extended ., the petitioner did not meet such requirements “, the sentence reads.
On January 21, Romero filed for dismissal for lack of jurisdiction over the person. In his letter, Romero Lugo limited himself to arguing about the lack of jurisdiction over the person because he had not been subpoenaed as required by the electoral law.
Natal argued that a greater number of ballots are being awarded than the number of people who actually voted validly in San Juan’s Unit 77 and requested a new election for the mayor of San Juan only in Unit 77, which he says is justified . because of the alleged irregularities.
