Pretty cheeky.
A British man tried to sneak a samosa into prison by hiding it between his buttocks, police said in a recent report.
West Midlands police said the discovery of the baked pastry was one of the most unusual incidents of 2020, Birmingham Live reported.
“We’ve had some strange incidents,” Inspector Manj Ahir told the website.
“One that sticks in my head was a man who was found during a search with a samosa between his buttocks.”
The hungry prisoner apparently acted out of fear that he would not be able to get decent food after his arrest.
“He said he wanted to smuggle it into jail as a snack because he didn’t think the food was too much,” Ahir said.
The agent joked, “He clearly wouldn’t read our positive Tripadvisor reviews!”
Another strange arrest involved a man in his 40s who came back to prison after his release – with a box of chocolates to thank the staff.
The man, who was charged with assault, had type 2 diabetes, so officers went to his house to bring him his medications.
“He also saw an employee referring alcohol as he had drunk for the first time in six years, which he said led to the arrest,” Ahir recalls.
A few days later, he returned to the cell block “with chocolates to say thanks for the care he received from the staff.”
“It was a nice gesture,” said the inspector.
The strange incidents were among the more than 45,000 arrests made by agents in the West Midlands over the course of last year, the report said.
“It has been a year like no other for us with significant demand, processing an average of 126 inmates per day, while adhering to COVID-19 protocols,” Ahir said.
“However, the team has done brilliantly”, he added.
