According to a report, a British man could face up to six years in prison for violating Singapore’s quarantine rules to meet his then-fiancé at the same hotel.
Nigel Skea, 52, left his room at the five-star Ritz-Carlton three times in September to meet his now-wife, Agatha Maghesh Eyamala, 39, in another room, Sky News reported.
On one occasion, a Skea without a mask climbed an emergency stairwell to enter a room Eyamala had booked at the hotel in downtown Marina Bay, the outlet reported.
He then spent nine hours with Eyamala, who was not in quarantine, Sky reported.
Most travelers must remain in quarantine in an assigned hotel room or at home for 14 days after arriving in Singapore, the outlet reported.
Skea pleaded guilty on Monday to breaking the coronavirus quarantine in the country, while Eyamala pleaded guilty to helping her partner in the hotel rendezvous.
The couple will be sentenced in court on Feb. 26, where they can each face up to six years in prison and a fine of 10,000 Singapore dollars ($ 7,558), the newspaper reported.
