A man plunged into his death in Florida after his parachute failed to open when he jumped from a hotel balcony, authorities said.
The unknown man jumped off the balcony on the 14th floor of the Sunrise Beach Resort in Panama City Beach on Sunday evening, news channel WMBB reported.
He had tried to do a BASE jump – an activity where people jump out of a building or antenna, next to other fixed objects – but his chute didn’t open in time, the outlet reported.
No further details were available on how he died.
Officials believe the man was in his 20s, but it’s unclear whether he was local or out-of-state visiting, news channel WJHG reported.
The popular spring break destination is on the Gulf of Mexico – more than 100 miles southwest of Tallahassee’s state capital.
