People in Aichi prefecture, Japan, have arrested a 23-year-old man for violating the country’s unfair competition law. According to Asahi News, the suspect is charged with selling a modified Sobble.

Last April, the suspect, an unemployed resident of Nagoya, allegedly hacked the character via computer and sold it to a Kyoto man for 4,400 yen ($ 42). At a press conference today, the prefecture police showed the desktop PC used to modify the data.

The suspect, Asahi News adds, would have confessed.

Under Japanese law, this type of improper activity is illegal the Unfair Competition Prevention Act.

For a year up to November last year, the man is said to have made 1,150,000 yen ($ 10,900) for selling modded Pokémon Sword and Shield characters.
