Minnesota Timberwolves security guard, Malik Beasley, has pleaded guilty to a felony crime in connection with a September incident in which he was arrested, his attorney, Steven Haney, confirmed to ESPN Monday.
Haney said 24-year-old Beasley will not have to spend time in prison or be locked up at home until after the 2020/21 NBA season. Your sentence will not exceed 120 days. If Beasley successfully completes his probation, his charge of threats of violence will be reduced to a felony, Haney said.
As part of the plea, a felony charge was dismissed.
“With this resolution, Malik can play the 2020-2021 NBA season and work towards becoming the player and person we know he can be,” Haney told ESPN.
Beasley, who averaged 20.7 points in 14 games with the Timberwolves last season after being traded by the Denver Nuggets in February, faced offenses for controlled substances / narcotics and charges for receiving / concealing stolen property , according to data from Hennepin County Jail.
In November, Beasley, a limited free agent, reached a four-year $ 60 million deal with the Timberwolves. The fourth year is a team option.
In a statement to ESPN, Plymouth police said at the time that officers had been called to Beasley’s home for a reported gun crime. Informants told officers they had stopped their car in front of the house, and a “suspect approached their vehicle, hit the vehicle window, pointed a gun at them and advised them to leave the premises.”
“As the victims drove away, the suspect was observed holding the gun to his shoulder and pointing at his vehicle,” the police statement said.
Officers established a perimeter to locate the individual and detected a strong smell of marijuana, according to the statement. A vehicle attempted to leave the premises and was stopped by the police. Three people in the car were detained and later released. A man, who identified himself as the owner of the house, yelled at officers outside.
Officers have been issued a search warrant for the property and have found narcotics and numerous weapons, one of which has been stolen, police said.
