Major Nintendo Switch feature may have leaked and no one noticed

The most recent Nintendo Switch update released earlier this month has seemingly leaked a highly anticipated feature that Switch and Switch Lite users have been begging Nintendo to add, but no one seems to have noticed, although that’s because the patch notes from the update are misleading. According to the patch notes of the last update of the pair of consoles, this update didn’t say much. In fact, the patch notes reveal next to nothing. However, the update did more than reveal the patch notes, at least that’s what data miners claim. Looking through the files of the update, it was found that the update added audio support to the Bluetooth driver without telling anyone.

On Twitter, Nintendo Switch dataminer, “OatmealDome,” got word of the discovery, noting that it is currently unclear if anything is taking advantage of this support. And of course, there are no guarantees that this will be used either, but Nintendo is unlikely to have added the feature for no reason, especially given the context in which players have been asking for Bluetooth audio since its launch in 2017.

For now it remains to be seen what will come of this. In the meantime, take all of this with a grain of salt, and not because the source is not reliable. These are actual files added by the most recent update, but at this point we only have files and capabilities.

As for Nintendo, it hasn’t commented on any of the above information, and it probably hasn’t. Nintendo rarely comments on rumors, reports, or leaks. Since the release of the Nintendo Switch, it hasn’t commented on a single data mining leak, and it’s hard to imagine that will change now. However, if it breaks this pattern and provides commentary, we’ll be sure to update the story accordingly.
