Mads Mikkelsen joins Harrison Ford in ‘Indiana Jones 5’ – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: After the news, Phoebe Waller-Bridge had landed the female lead in the next Indiana Jones film, Lucasfilm has found Harrison Ford’s next co-star as Mads Mikkelsen joins the next episode. James Mangold takes over directing from Steven Spielberg, who continues to serve as a producer and is deeply involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year franchise, including the iconic theme, also returns as a composer.

The hope is to begin production this summer, with Mangold meeting other talent for other roles in preparation for production. Plot details are still vague about what new adventure awaits Jones, as are details about who will play Mikkelsen. The film will bow on July 29, 2022.

The film marks another major franchise where Mikkelsen will embark upon coming to the United States Fantastic beasts franchise. Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp as Grindewald, who retired from the role earlier this year following his recent legal troubles. Mikkelsen also gets some of the best reviews of his career in Danish film Another round, which recently earned a handful of Oscar nominations, including Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director. At the BAFTAs, where Mikkelsen was nominated for best actor, the film took home the prize for best film not in the English language.

Next up for him is the Riders of Justice. He is represented by UTA and Art Management.
