ZET CLEMENS, Mich. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said the county is ready and they are not playing games when it comes to handing out the vaccines.

So they are expanding the list of people who can get the vaccines in Macomb County. From Saturday, anyone aged 16 or older with a disability can call and make an appointment.

“In fact, we decided that these people with disabilities and other family or carers and even their guardians would sometimes have the opportunity to go ahead and apply for the vaccine,” Hackel said. “16 years or older. We work with our school districts to identify people who may fall into those categories. “

Hackel said this is a huge achievement, but they still target seniors first.

“Our main concern was making sure we took care of our seniors first and I tell you, we are over 100,000 seniors here in Macomb County,” Hackel said.

But how do you determine who is telling the truth about their circumstances and who is not?

“Much of it is based on the honor system,” Hackel said. “I don’t know too many people who will take advantage of this and try to get on it.”

Hackel naturally expects more people to call. There are more phone calls and more appointments.

“We are prepared and, again, I think we can open up to pretty much all people – to anyone who wants the vaccine – rather than probably the April 5 deadline,” Hackel said.
