MacKenzie Scott has donated $ 20 million to Mile High United Way, the largest donation in the nonprofit’s 133-year history.
Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, announced on Tuesday that she has “donated more than $ 4.1 billion over the past four months to nearly 400 organizations that have helped fulfill the basic needs of many Americans grappling with the pandemic. Forbes said.
Scott’s contribution to Mile High United Way will be “transformational, according to a press release,” for Colorado children and families in the Denver area of seven counties.
When Mile High United Way was founded, it was the world’s first United Way, the release said.
“We are humbly and extremely grateful to Ms. Scott for this transformational gift, and for the strong belief in the strength of our work it demonstrates,” said Christine Benero, president and CEO of Mile High United Way, in the release. “This gift is a testament to our community – staff, board, donors, volunteers and partners – for all that has been collectively done to position Mile High United Way for this important gift and recognition.”
Scott, an award-winning writer, billionaire and philanthropist, divorced Bezos in 2019. The couple married in 1993. Scott received a reported $ 38 billion divorce settlement.
