Last Sunday, on his 53rd birthday, former Antioquia football player and coach Luis Guillermo, the ‘teacher’ Berrío, died of a sudden heart attack.
According to ‘Diario del Huila’, after playing a football match with his friends in Cali, Berrío felt severe chest pain, which eventually turned into a heart attack that took his life.
As a footballer, the Amagá-born man served as a midfielder in America, Envigado, Huila, Pereira, Tolima, Quindío and other Venezuelan and Peruvian football teams. He was notable for his excellent technique of hitting the ball.
As a coach he directed Atlético Huila, Deportivo Independiente Medellín, Alianza Petrolera and Deportivo Pasto.
