Luis Enrique Santander in new controversy, now in Necaxa vs Rayados

The whistler was again in controversy for a game he didn’t approve in Rayados’s favor, for a penalty against Rayos de Necaxa

The whistling Luis Enrique Santader brought the arbitration into controversy again, due to the decisions made in the match between Rayos del Necaxa and Rayados de Monterrey on the seventh day of the Guard1anes Clausura 2021 tournament.

Felipe Ramos Rizo, former referee and analyst ESPN, published through his social networks that “Santander is at the forefront of the play, approving no clear punishment.”

The former whistler indicated the above after a mistake was made in a play on Alfonso González, an element of the Rayados, near the property, but Santander did not indicate.

Another controversial game took place when an alleged goal was scored after goalkeeper Edgar Hernández attempted to restrain an opponent’s shot, lowering the ball and making it appear as if the ball passed the last line.

At the end of the day, the referee did not indicate anything in that match, maintaining Rayados’ lead 1-0 in the match at the Victoria Stadium at that time.

Santander had to resort to the VAR review on several occasions, in actions it failed to resolve on the field. Necaxa’s tying goal was up for discussion due to a misguided assumption, but after the video referee’s silent assessment, the score was validated.

The center-back was criticized for having canceled a goal against Pumas over an alleged misplaced Emanuel Montejano, who did not participate in the match. That decision opened the door for Toluca to beat the college students 1 to 0.

Santander was appointed as the central judge in the Necaxa-Monterrey game, in addition to appearing as VAR in the match between Querétaro against Puebla, despite being picked last day for a controversial Toluca vs. Pumas arbitration decision.
