Strong supporters of song and the most indigenous genres of Cuban music.
Cuban singer Olga Lucía Lago Muela, Lucía Lago, died this Monday in Havana at the age of 95, as revealed by those close to the exceptional artist.
Lucía, a member of the Trío Hermanas Lago, had an intense musical activity since joining what was known as Cuba and America’s first female harmonic trio in 1947, in which she stood out with her sisters Cristina and Graciela.
Defenders at all costs of song and the most indigenous genres of Cuban music, The Lake Sisters not only produced an enormous repertoire that was included in the Antillean discography, but also accompanied outstanding artists such as Bola de Nieve, Jorge Negrete, Alfredo Sadel and Rosita Fornés.
The most famous theaters and cabarets, great programs on Cuban television and daily broadcasts on CMQ and COCO stations made Lucía and her sisters a benchmark for good taste, discipline and dedication.
Lucía Lago was recognized with distinction by the National Culture, Raúl Gómez García, August 23, and Adolfo Guzmán; in addition to other awards presented by radio and television.
Shortly before his death, the last of the formation survivors collaborated in the making of a documentary about the Lake Sisters that will soon see the light.
