Louisiana police officers release video of deadly gun store shooting

Louisiana police on Monday released surveillance footage of an armed robbery at a gun store and shooting range that left three people dead and two more injured.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office showed edited clips at a news conference on Monday about the deadly robbery.

The Saturday shooting that killed three people and injured two more at a gun store and shooting range in Louisiana began when a customer refused to unload his weapon, a store operator said.

The Jefferson Parish coroner said 47-year-old Herbert “Noah” Fischbach, of Jefferson, 59-year-old Veronica Billiot, of Belle Chasse, and 27-year-old Joshua Jamal Williams, of New Orleans were killed in Saturday’s shooting. afternoon at Jefferson Gun Outlet in Metairie.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said earlier that the shooter initially punched two people inside, then several other people – whether employees or retail customers – opened fire on the shooter, both inside and outside the building.

Lopinto said two other people were also hit by gunfire and were hospitalized in stable condition. Michael Mayer, a director at the gun outlet, identified Williams as the shooter.

He told The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate that Williams entered the suburban New Orleans store on Saturday with a loaded firearm and was asked to unload by a compliance officer.

Mayer said Williams “got annoyed by the request and pulled his gun out of his pants and started firing.” He said employees and customers have answered fire and “eliminated the threat.”

Mayer also said he was limited in what he could tell news outlets as the investigation is still ongoing.

Herbert Fischbach’s wife, Nancy, also confirmed that he was one of three dead. She said Fischbach was a special effects specialist and armor who oversaw the use of weapons on movie sets.

Nancy Fischbach said her husband had worked in the gun shop because of COVID-19 restrictions on the film industry. She believes he died to help people in the store.

“He helped people,” said Fischbach. “He leaned back in front of everyone … he wouldn’t hurt anyone unless they did something wrong.”
