Los Angeles Chargers lands center Corey Linsley with 5-year deal, source says

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to a five-year deal with Free-Agent Center Corey Linsley, a source tells ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The move fills a huge void for the Chargers. Dan Feeney had moved from guard to center last season after Mike Pouncey went into reserve in September with a hip injury. Pouncey stopped this out of season.

Linsley earned the first team All-Pro award last season, becoming the first Green Bay Packers center to do so since Jim Ringo in 1963.

He started 13 games, missed three due to a knee injury, but returned in time for the playoffs. He helped the Packers take second place in the NFL in the fewest pockets allowed and was part of the top-scoring foul in the NFL.

The Ohio State fifth round 2014 pick became an immediate starter as a rookie and has 99 season starts dating from that 2014 season. He had a period from late in the 2016 season to the start of the 2019 season when he had more than 2,700 consecutive offensive snaps on the field.

29-year-old Linsley signed a $ 25.5 million three-year contract extension with Green Bay late in the 2017 season.

He was one of two offensive starters for the Packers to enter the 2020 season in the final year of his contract. The team signed All-Pro David Bakhtiari’s left tackle for a four-year extension of $ 103.5 million in November. Bakhtiari tore his ACL in practice on December 31 and may not be ready for the start of the regular season.

ESPN’s Shelley Smith and Rob Demovsky contributed to this report.
