Giannulli is now being released under surveillance, managed by a Bureau of Prisons field office in San Pedro, California, according to the agency’s records. He had been incarcerated in a federal prison in Lompoc, California since November 19.
Bureau of Prisons spokesman Emery Nelson confirmed to CNN that Giannulli had been released from Lompoc prison on Friday, but declined to say whether he is halfway there or at home.
According to Nelson, Giannulli is scheduled for a full release on April 17th.
Giannulli’s lawyers did not respond to requests for information from CNN on Saturday afternoon.
Giannulli and Loughlin became some of the most high-profile parents involved in the college admissions scandal. They admitted that they paid the mastermind of the plan, William “Rick” Singer, $ 500,000 to get their daughters accepted for admission to the University of Southern California.
Giannulli had asked a judge to compassionately allow him to be kept at home early this year because the coronavirus pandemic forced him to spend 56 days in quarantine in solitary confinement. Judge Nathaniel Gorton denied that request on January 26.
Loughlin was released in December after serving a two-month sentence for her role in the university defamation. Loughlin must also be released under surveillance for two years, do 100 hours of community service and pay a $ 150,000 fine.
Giannulli was sentenced to five months in prison, sentenced to two years of supervised release, 250 hours of community service and a $ 250,000 fine.
