Former NFL manager Michael Lombardi, now a writer at The Athletic, recently joined SiriusXM’s The Wrap and sounded convinced that at least he knows what the San Francisco 49ers are are not do with the number 3 general choice. The team traded for the spot on March 26, giving up four draft picks, including its own first-rounders over the next three drafts, to move up nine spots from No. 12.

The three contenders with the best odds of making San Francisco’s first roster are Justin Fields of Ohio, Mac Jones of Alabama, and Trey Lance of North Dakota, in that order.

Lombardi, however, is convinced it will not be Fields.

“May I tell you the news I heard? Justin Fields is not going to No. 3,” Lombardi said to Patrick Meagher (h / t to Sasha D. Robinson“I heard that.”

The writer acknowledges that there are skeptics on Twitter who think he could be wrong. He even has a message for them.

“Where do you get your information?” asked an eerie Lombardi. ‘Like you have better resources than me? Good luck. Good luck. I’m just telling you, if it’s not Mac Jones, it’s Trey Lance. So take that. [how] you want, Patrick. Do whatever you want with it. “

Fields worked for the 49ers and other NFL teams last week, which led to him jumping above Jones in the eyes of oddsmakers. Lance will be training for the Niners on Monday, which could increase his chances of becoming the No. 3 overall pick.
