Former NFL manager Michael Lombardi, now a writer at The Athletic, recently joined SiriusXM’s The Wrap and sounded convinced that at least he knows what the San Francisco 49ers are are not do with the number 3 general choice. The team traded for the spot on March 26, giving up four draft picks, including its own first-rounders over the next three drafts, to move up nine spots from No. 12.
The three contenders with the best odds of making San Francisco’s first roster are Justin Fields of Ohio, Mac Jones of Alabama, and Trey Lance of North Dakota, in that order.
Lombardi, however, is convinced it will not be Fields.
“May I tell you the news I heard? Justin Fields is not going to No. 3,” Lombardi said to Patrick Meagher (h / t to Sasha D. Robinson“I heard that.”
The writer acknowledges that there are skeptics on Twitter who think he could be wrong. He even has a message for them.
“Where do you get your information?” asked an eerie Lombardi. ‘Like you have better resources than me? Good luck. Good luck. I’m just telling you, if it’s not Mac Jones, it’s Trey Lance. So take that. [how] you want, Patrick. Do whatever you want with it. “
Fields worked for the 49ers and other NFL teams last week, which led to him jumping above Jones in the eyes of oddsmakers. Lance will be training for the Niners on Monday, which could increase his chances of becoming the No. 3 overall pick.

Mac Jones vs. Justin Fields or Trey Lance. That’s the big debate when it comes to the San Francisco 49ers and the 2021 NFL Draft. While the latter two names are more likely to tickle the fan base, there is much speculation that the former may well be the number 3 pick overall. However, a former defender of the 49ers, Richard Sherman, doesn’t assume it will be Jones. He actually sees Fields as the perfect match for San Francisco, assuming Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are pleased with the first two selections. Cornerback Tre’Davious White, the most recent guest on the Cris Collinsworth Podcast, co-hosted by Sherman, also believes the 49ers will select Fields. It’s not easy to fathom that San Francisco has submitted multiple first round picks and one

Pro Football Focus released its latest mock concept, courtesy of analyst Ben Linsey. The San Francisco 49ers have long been expected to select a quarterback after their recent transaction to the number 3 spot. They have a number of good options to choose from. With Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson almost a slot to go to No. 1 and No. 2, San Francisco can go with Justin Fields from Ohio, Trey Lance from North Dakota or Mac Jones from Alabama. Linsey has taken San Francisco with the player who is the popular choice among 49ers fans: Fields. Fields’ game is below the

No one is questioning Justin Fields’ athletic ability. Some question the former Ohio State quarterback’s ability to transition quickly from the college game to the pros. Mark Sanchez recently joined The Pat McAfee Show, explaining why Fields’ ability to learn an NFL playbook may not last as long as some might expect. Perhaps all of his skeptics who want to find ways to bring down the quarterback are wrong. “To Justin, this man, Dr. Goldman, is a sports psychologist; I spoke to him yesterday,” said Sanchez (h / t to Jordan Cohn of 95.7 The Game). ‘He has something interesting

Much has been said about the absence of San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and the absence of general manager John Lynch during Ohio State’s pro day last week. Rather than travel to Columbus to watch quarterback Justin Fields, a candidate to be called up with the team’s No. 3, the duo were in Tuscaloosa for Alabama Pro Day to watch Mac Jones. Why Jones about Fields?[Just] talk to Fields’ agent [David Mulugheta] and so, we’ll get another one from him too, ‘Shanahan explained last week, per Kirk Larrabee. So we’ll be able to see him. That made it an easy decision. According to Fields’ agent, the next opportunity will arise
