Loews Hotels is withdrawing from fundraising for GOP Senator Hawley

The fallout against Senator Josh Hawley for backing a bid to contest Electoral College results in Congress continues as a prominent hotel chain pulled out of a Florida fundraiser for the Missouri Republican, according to a report.

Hawley was among a number of GOP senators and House members who announced they would oppose the certification of electoral votes for President-elect Joe Biden at a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6 – a process that was interrupted when a crowd Supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol.

The fundraising campaign at the Portofino Bay Hotel in Universal Orlando was scheduled for February 12 to February 15 and was hosted by Fighting for Missouri, but Loews Hotels, the owner of the Portofino, said it was canceling the event.

“We are shocked and opposed to the events in the Capitol and anyone who supported and instigated the actions,” Loews Hotel said on Twitter Saturday. “In light of those events and for the safety of our guests and team members, we informed the host of the February fundraiser that it will no longer take place at Loews Hotels.”

Publisher Simon & Schuster canceled a book deal with Hawley a day after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, saying it no longer supports the Senator for “his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.”

“After witnessing the troubling, deadly uprising that took place in Washington, DC on Wednesday, Simon & Schuster has decided to cancel publication of Senator Josh Hawley’s upcoming book, The Tyranny of Big Tech,” said Simon & Schuster.

Thousands of pro-Trump supporters descended on the Capitol Building, breaking windows and breaking the doors of the building, prompting lawmakers to rush to seek safety in secret locations.

Five people died as a result of the chaos, including a Capitol Police officer who died of his injuries while defending the Capitol.

Electoral College certification resumed hours later after law enforcement officials cleared the Capitol from the rioters and confirmed that Biden was the winner of the Nov. 3 presidential election.

In a statement, Hawley’s office said the senator will not be intimidated.

‘If these companies don’t want conservatives to speak, they just have to be honest about it. But equating leading a debate on the Senate floor with incitement to violence is a lie, and it is dangerous. I will not be deterred from representing my constituents and I will not bow to the pressure from the left wing, ”Hawley said in the statement.
