Earlier this month, Trump was charged with “inciting insurgency” during the January 6 Capitol riots.

South Carolina lawyers Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier and former federal prosecutors Greg Harris, Johnny Gasser and Josh Howard had left the defense team on Saturday, a source said, calling it a mutual decision.

The source said the lawyers had left a disagreement over the direction of the defense’s argument.

New acquisitions are expected to join in the coming week.

The upheaval created new uncertainty in the makeup and strategy of Trump’s defense team as he prepared for allegations that he instigated the uprising at the Capitol on January 6.

Trump would almost certainly be acquitted, however, as all but five Republicans in the Senate voted to dismiss the trial earlier this month.
