“We have an exchange” …
Lions GM Brad Holmes starts a trade to aggressively land the quarterback of the future in Detroit. With some consultation from Dolphins Wire editor Kyle Crabbs, we worked out the following deal:
Lions trade No. 7 overall, No. 101 overall (the third rounder obtained from the Rams) and a 2022 first round (whichever is higher, the Lions Own or the Rams’) to Miami for No. 3 overall and Miami’s seventh round pick at No. 231 (inherited from Houston).
It goes up to get Trey Lance, the precocious North Dakota state quarterback with sky-high potential but limited experience. Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were off the board here. Lance ends up in Detroit, where he is given time to learn and develop a year (or two) behind Jared Goff without being thrown into the fray before he’s ready.
And because you want to know … Miami takes Kyle Pitts (preferably) or Ja’Marr Chase at number 7.
