Lindsey Boylan, the first woman to accuse New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment in an ever-growing scandal, condemned President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in a now-deleted tweet for keeping silent about the allegations.
The most prominent New York Democrats, including Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Kristen Gillibrand and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, have called for Cuomo to resign over the allegations. But neither Harris nor Biden, who ever described Cuomo as the ‘gold standard’ of leadership during the coronavirus pandemic, have commented on the situation.
Boylan spoke out shortly after a rebel denied Cuomo wrongdoing on allegations made by seven women, including Boylan, who accused the governor of sexual harassment and misconduct. At a press conference, Cuomo said he would not heed calls to resign, claiming that “there are often many reasons for making an allegation,” in a clear suggestion that his prosecutors had ulterior motives.
“The governor has denied all wrongs,” Boylan wrote on Twitter“He came on his platform today and said,” There are many reasons people do things. “He incites hatred and speculation to be directed at his accusers. All evil and hatred directed at the women is squarely on @NYGovCuomo.”
“It also questions the judgment and courage of both @POTUS and @KamalaHarris,” Boylan added. She later deleted the second tweet
Boylan also criticized the White House last Sunday, tweeting that the public “saw blue trolls harassing me and other survivors” because Biden, Harris and other New York Democrats “supported it with their silence.” Several of the Democrats referenced in the tweet later called for Cuomo to step down.
White House press officer Jen Psaki commented on the situation at a press conference earlier Friday.
“The president believes that every woman who has come forward – there are now six, I believe, who have come forward – deserves to be heard, be treated with respect, and if she has to tell her story. can tell, ”said Psaki.
Boylan, a former staff member of the Cuomo administration, wrote a February 24 blog post describing several instances where the governor was guilty of allegedly inappropriate behavior.
In the post, Boylan claimed that Cuomo had asked her to play “strip poker” on a flight and kissed her on the lips during a meeting in his office, among other alleged offenses. Cuomo has denied Boylan’s allegations.
New York State Attorney General Letitia James opened an investigation into the claims against Cuomo.
